Happy Birthday Al! May 26th - Jolson's Birthday: When Al Jolson was born, in the Pale of Settlement of Russia in the 1880s, there were no formal birth certificates. While it is often quoted, the truth is that Al Jolson chose the birthday of May 26th, because he liked the idea of a spring birthday.
