Founded in 1947 as The Jolsonairs, reorganized in 1950, and ultimately renamed The International Al Jolson Society in 1958, the mission statement of the Jolson Society is: "To protect and perpetuate the legacy of Al Jolson."
Membership in the Society provides many opportunities for those people around the world who share enthusiasm for "The World's Greatest Entertainer." Full members receive two Jolson Journals annually -- one in the spring and one in the fall -- plus periodic newsletters concerning the latest activities of the Society. Each Jolson Journal contains 60+ pages of stories and rare photographs of Al with many additional interesting articles written by members of the Society. Both Full Members and those joining with an introductory one year free eMembership also receive a semiannual Jolson Journalette, with news and updates. All members can avail themselves of the many services that The International Al Jolson Society offers its members, such as:A convention is held each year in a major city of the United States or overseas, usually in the spring. Some regional chapters hold local festivals during the year but on a date that does not conflict with the annual convention. All events offer a fantastic opportunity to meet other Jolson fans from around the world and to enjoy the nostalgic great era of Al Jolson.
