David Hinde, a bass baritone, lives in East Yorkshire close to the coastal resorts of Scarborough & Filey. He discovered Jolson in 1994 when he bought a £4 Jolson tape from a garage sale. ”Within a week, I was hooked!” said David.
David has played many principal roles with the York and Malton Operatic Societies; including Luther Billis in South Pacific, the title role in The Mikado, and Captain Corcoran in HMS Pinafore. David also won a Gold Medal in 1996 at the Harrogate Singing Festival as part of the Malton Barbershop Quartet.
In 1998, David joined with a South Yorkshire Dixieland Jazz Band in a concert entitled "Jolson & All That Jazz." Several Jolson numbers were included, presented in new Dixieland arrangements, and were very well received.
Five years later, David produced his first CD, featuring a full repertoire of songs, entitled "On The Street Where You Live."
Here for your enjoyment is one of the songs from that 1998 concert, a raucous version of Rock-A-Bye Your Baby With A Dixie Melody, done in true Dixieland style, complete with an encore chorus.
